TeenScreen Schools and Communities
TeenScreen Schools and Communities, formerly known as the Columbia University TeenScreen Program, is the National Center for Mental Health Checkups’ flagship program, offering voluntary screening to teens and their families through more than 500 local TeenScreen sites in 43 U.S. states. TeenScreen Schools and Communities is specifically designed to facilitate the implementation of mental health checkups of youth ages 11-18 within school and community-based settings.

School systems and communities around the nation are recognizing the importance of making the mental health and well-being of youth a priority. The questionnaires offer a simple way to evaluate if a teen is suffering from emotional or behaviors disorders. These problems can result in substance abuse, school failure, suicide and other difficulties that can disrupt the adolescent development process. By offering voluntary mental health checkups, local TeenScreen programs provide the opportunity for youth and their families the chance to succeed academically and live happy and productive lives.

The TeenScreen National Center for Mental Health Checkups offers participating schools and communities free access to evidence-based resources to conduct screenings in your setting.  Participants have access to:
  • Local program development material

  • Free mental health checkup questionnaires for teens

  • Instruction on the administration, scoring and interpretation of the screening questionnaire

  • Free training and implementation materials from Columbia University

  • Information on how to work with families when mental health services are indicated
