More than a decade of research, planning, and development provide the Columbia University TeenScreen Program with a solid foundation in suicide prevention and the early identification of mental illness. The program has been recognized by the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health as a model program, the national Suicide Prevention Resource Center  included the TeenScreen Program on its list of Promising Evidence-Based Practices in suicide prevention programs and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices lists TeenScreen as an evidence-based program. In addition, mental health screening has been endorsed by over 30 national health, family and advocacy organizations.
